Installation was clean, even with making multiple partitions on HD, so I can install & test other OS's. No need for extra drivers at the moments.
One curiosity was the auto creation of a system partition, Something to research, and understand.
A bit of the usual ' where the hell is that' as with any new OS, but mostly appears a re-organisation of Vista, with layers of menus, which means you have to chose the correct root entry point.
Joined to the domain eventually, after finding way to system page. SBS200 joining mechanism via web page didn't work, but Vista was a mess in this area, and appears to use same extension.
So now it's installing other software, and attempting to use it in anger !

I have now installed Win 7 about 6 times, I like it so much! It's a long story and more to do with Visual Studio 2010, Silverlight 4 and RIA Services than Win7. Oh and upgrading my laptop by putting in a 64bit CPU which meant I could go Win 7 x64 so I did, that was the last install! Now I need to work out how to run in XP mode as my invoicing app is still in Foxpro for Windows 2.6 (16 bit) and I need to use it at the end of the month!
ReplyDeleteAs for adding the machine to your domain, Just create the computer account on the server in the server management MMC app and then on the workstation go to System Properties, Advanced Settings, Computer name, and click the Change... button to add it to the domain. Like you did in XP pre SBS!
Phil,
ReplyDeleteWorked out all this a year ago (check date)
I've got 7 Pro x64 on my netbook which works okay, but left the original Xp partition, so it's dual boot. I've helped a few customers upgrade to Win 7
and all seems to work okay.
Most work is Server 2008, Hyper-V, and SQL 2008
A few gotcha with Hyper-V and networking with the physical machine. Just finishing off my new server SBS 2008.
